The Floor Store was founded with a single location in April of 1983. Since then, our business has grown beyond the original store in Richmond to include seven separate locations. Spread throughout Northern California, our showrooms offer customers the ability to browse an enormous selection of carpeting and area rugs; hardwood, vinyl and laminate flooring; natural stone and tile; and every major style of Green flooring, including bamboo and cork.
For most of our history, we have had partnership relationships with major manufacturers like Mohawk and Shaw. This preferred status gives us access to products, prices, and financing programs other dealers can’t offer. In 2012, the Floor Store was awarded Mohawk’s prestigious Retailer of the Year award.
As a company, we have grown and thrived over the last few decades. We attribute our success in large part to the fact that customer satisfaction is our top priority. We pride ourselves on offering a level of customer service that large retailers can’t match. As a family-run business, we also value our employees. Some of our associates have been with us since the doors opened at our Richmond location in April of 1983. We believe that the dedication and commitment our associates demonstrate is the best in the industry. We invite you to visit and see for yourself.
Larry Flick, Founder and CEO
When he decided to open the Floor Store in 1983, Larry Flick already had years of experience in the industry. He comes from a family with a long and venerable history in the flooring business. Growing up near Dalton, Georgia, Larry spent his early years in the heart of carpet country. His father, Robert Flick, has owned RJ Flick Associates for more than 50 years and is well-known throughout the textile industry.
As the third of four kids, Larry had ample opportunity to see his dad in business and to learn the ins and outs of textiles and flooring. His actual career began as a teenager. After running wholesale and manufacturing businesses in Georgia, he moved to the West Coast and shifted his focus to retail operations. With the opening of the Jacuzzi Street location in Richmond, California, in 1983, he began the long and successful trek toward becoming the owner and CEO of the flooring retailer with the largest in-stock selection of flooring in Northern California. Today, Larry oversees the operations of eight Floor Store locations, spread throughout the San Francisco Bay area.
